ABOUT
Alessandro Umberto D’Aloia is Alex D’Aloia, writer, screenwriter, and film philosopher from Melbourne, Australia. He is currently in the final stages of his Doctor of Philosophy at RMIT University, where he studies the affect of time and the moving image as an interdisciplinary researcher.
In 2012, I graduated from RMIT with a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing with Distinction. That same year, I was shortlisted for the Newcastle Poetry Prize, which influenced me to intern with Australian Poetry, the national body for poetry in Australia; little did I know that such a role would eventually take me halfway across the world.
In 2014, I graduated from RMIT, this time with First Class Honours in Media and Communication. In 2018, I recommenced my doctoral research at RMIT.
In 2019, just before the COVID-19 pandemic, I flew to Uzbekistan to get engaged to my wife, who originally found me through the Australian Poetry website.
In 2022, I lived in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, where I taught Specialist IELTS Writing and Speaking classes to the general public in cohort with A-Z English. I also hosted a weekly podcast via Telegram, with listeners tuning in from as far as Iran and Nigeria to hone their English skills with a native speaker.
